Throw Down Your Ropes

by Jake Hershey on July 8, 2012

Just a handful of men,

 In the pastures of Galilee,

Were gatherin’ when He rode up to them,

He said, “Throw down your ropes, come and ride with me.

And I’ll make you gatherers of men.”

They weren’t afraid to risk it all,

When they heard the Master’s call,

So they dropped their ropes and left them for all to see,

There was somethin’ about that man,

 They couldn’t quite understand,

They just believed Him when he said, “Come, ride with me.

‘Cause there’s souls that need savin’,

 And lives that need changin’,

And you will never have to throw them ropes again.

We’re goin’ on a mission,

That looks a lot like fishin’,

But I need someone to help me drag them in,

I need a few good men.”

Well He told them of a day,

When he’d have to go away,

And he promised that a comforter would come.

So they said their last goodbyes,

And as they watched Him take the skies,

He said, “Keep on gatherin’, ‘till yer work on earth is done.

‘Cause there’s souls that need savin’,

And lives that need changin’,

And you will never have to throw them ropes again.

We’re goin’ on a mission,

That looks a lot like fishin’,

But I need someone to help me drag them in,

I need a few good men.”

He still does…are you willing?  Yer darn sure able.  The choice is yours.

“Come and ride with me,” Jesus said to’em, “and help me gather mavericks.  I’ll make you gatherers of men.”  Mathew 4:19 (Simplified Cowboy Version)

  • Ya know- I think sometimes the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. To put it in cowboy terms, I think some good hands can see the need but they aren’t too certain if their horse or gear is up to the challenge. All ya need to remember is that Jesus promised we could do all He did and more in His name; so maybe we just need to whisper His name in that horses ear and ride out with assurance that ahe is with us!

I agree, sir. It takes guts to do it and guts to hang.
