Wal-Mart Prophecy – The 3rd Most Read Post of 2011

by Kevin on January 18, 2012

For the next three days, we will revisit the top 3 devotions of 2011. This one proves you run into some crazy people in Wal-Mart and how you can point them the way to Christ.

I stopped at Wal-Mart in Odessa the other day and ended up having a Theomological discussion on end times prophecy with a lady tryin’ to get me to apply for a credit card. My response to her at the end of the discussion left her speechless. Here’s why.

I told her that I didn’t want a credit card. I went through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University and if I don’t have cash, I don’t buy it. She asked me what I did for a livin’ and I told her I was a cowboy preacher. Her eyes lit up and she said, “Well, let me see what you have to say about this.”

She went on to quiz me about Jacob and Esau and how they would become the forefathers of two great nations. She said the younger one would be over the older one. She then told me that this was a prophecy for two great nations today.

“Do you know which two nations those are Pastor?” she said.

I just shrugged my shoulders.

She said, “It’s England and the United States.”

I smiled sweetly at her and then she jumped into some stuff that I had never even heard. She was talkin’ so fast and so weird that I couldn’t possibly keep up. She said something about Solomon, something about Daniel, and about fourteen other people including Obama.

She finally asked, “So what do you think about all of this?”

I thought for a second and then I said, “I really don’t care.”

She was highly offended! “You’re a pastor! You have to care and study all of this because if you don’t know it, then you’re not a Christian.”

“No ma’am. That’s not true and I really don’t care about everything you just talked about. I know that in the end Christ is coming back to take all of us home and defeat Satan once and for all.”

She was getting mad at this point and said, “That’s only half of it. We have to know what to look for so we’ll know when the end is coming. That’s just as important.”

“No ma’am. I want you to listen very closely to what I’m fixin’ to tell you. There is only one thing that is important and that’s your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Quit lookin’ for signs and proof that Jesus is coming back. The Bible already told you that was going to happen.”

She was lookin’ down now and I could see her fighting against what I was saying.

I put my hand on her shoulder and said, “Quit lookin’ for proof and start lookin’ for Jesus. He’s lookin’ for you.”

Her manager then called her over to him and I think she got in trouble for talkin’ to me for so long. I walked off and right before I was out the door she came running up to me.

“Thank you pastor. You said to start lookin’ and I think I just found him. I wish someone would have put me in my place a long time ago, but nobody had the nerve. God bless you sir.”

I walked out with a glad heart and I thanked Jesus for the opportunity to share him.

Oh, and by the way….I still don’t care.
