Players can collect fish, sell them for money, or simply enjoy the peacefulness of fishing. The variety of fish in RDR2 adds realism and depth to the game’s ecosystem.

What is the Legendary Bluegill in RDR2?
The Legendary Bluegill is a special and very rare fish that you can catch while playing Red Dead Redemption 2. It is one of thirteen Legendary Fish that can be found in the game. To catch the Legendary Bluegill, you can either try to catch it on your own or as part of a special mission called “A Fisher of Fish,” given to you by a stranger in the game.
This fish is not like the regular bluegill you might find in the game, as it is bigger, stronger, and more unique. It is a special challenge for skilled anglers in the game and catching it is a great achievement.
Location of the Legendary Bluegill in RDR2
The Legendary Bluegill can be located in the southern part of Flat Iron Lake, near Clemens Point. You have the opportunity to discover it if you agree to go fishing with Kieran during Chapter 3 of the game. Kieran will invite you to join him at the beach close to the Clemens Point camp.
While fishing, Arthur and Kieran encounter a stranger swimming in the lake, who shares information about a large fish south of Clemens Point.
You can freely fish in the lake west of Rhodes to try and catch this legendary fish, even though it may not be marked on the map.
When you arrive, you’ll try to capture the fish before Keiran determines you don’t have the correct sort of bait. At this time, he abandons Arthur.
What kind of Bait to use for the Legendary Bluegill
In terms of bait, it is crucial to use the Special River Lure when attempting to catch the Legendary Bluegill. This specialized bait increases your chances of attracting and successfully hooking this elusive fish. Be sure to equip the Special River Lure before casting your line to maximize your chances of a successful catch.
Where to Stand to Catch the Legendary Bluegill in RDR2
When attempting to catch the Legendary Bluegill, you have some flexibility in choosing the river bank from which you cast your fishing rod. The specific bank doesn’t make a significant difference as long as you enter the river and cast your line without any obstacles hindering your fishing efforts.
However, if you happen to have a boat at your disposal, you have the option to fish from there instead. Position the boat in the middle of the water, ensuring it is stationary, and then proceed to cast your rod.
How to Catch the Legendary Bluegill in Easy Steps
Here are five steps you need to follow to successfully catch Legendary Fish in Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Accept the Legendary Fish Quest: Head to Gill Landing, located southeast of Flatneck Station in The Heartlands, on the north coast of Flat Iron Lake. Talk to Jeremy Gill on the dock and accept his quest, “A Fisher of Fish.” He will provide you with a map marking the locations of all 13 Legendary Fish. Your task is to catch these fish and deliver them to him.
- Obtain the Right Bait: Visit the Bait Shop in Lagras, where you can purchase different types of bait. After accepting the quest, “A Fisher of Fish,” you will unlock additional bait. To catch Legendary Fish, you need to acquire the Special Lake Lure, Special River Lure, and Special Swamp Lure.
- Locate a Legendary Bluegill: Refer to the Legendary Fish map obtained from Jeremy Gill. As you approach the vicinity of each Legendary Fish, their locations will be marked on your map. Compare your in-game world map to the paper map or visit the individual fish pages for specific locations.
- Catch the Fish: Once you are in the correct area, use the recommended lure mentioned earlier. The Legendary Fish in that region should be the first to bite. Prepare for a challenging battle as you try to reel it in. Refer to the “How to Fish” guide for tips and techniques.
- Deliver the Fish: After successfully catching a Legendary Fish, store it on your horse and promptly make your way to the nearest post office. Keep the fish on your horse and mail it to Jeremy Gill. After 24 in-game hours, you will receive your reward for the fish. Be cautious while transporting the fish, as dropping it from your horse may require reloading a saved game to retrieve it. Once you have delivered all the fish, you can proceed to hunt the Legendary Catfish with Jeremy Gill.
