If you ask several deer taxidermists near you for quotes, you'll likely get a wide range of answers. Around me, it ranges from $450 to $900.

The most common poses are the upright, a tall and majestic pose; the semi-upright, which is a little more relaxed; the semi-sneak, which is a very natural-looking pose; and, the full sneak, like you would see a buck when he's chasing does.

What to Expect. I took a social media poll of fervent deer hunters and asked them how long on average it takes to get a shoulder mount back from their taxidermist. I got hundreds of great responses, split pretty much down the middle: 51% of people said six to eight months, and 49% answered nine months to a year.

Nowadays any deer antlers has a market value, even though you paid a low end price to mount it. The approx replacement value on a similar sized set of antlers would be around $200 dollars or so, plus a hundred dollar cape, give or take.

Once your taxidermy mounts are clean, the next step is deciding what is the best course of action to get rid of your old animal head collection. While there is no real wrong answer, typically, most people choose to either donate or sell their vintage taxidermy.

A single, full turkey mount is one of the most common selections. Of course, there are numerous options for a full turkey mount. Size and Description

A mature buck may weigh from 200-300 lbs. and stand 2.5-3 feet tall at the shoulder, while does will weigh from 90-200 lbs. Coloration is the same in bucks and does, white bellies and rumps, a white patch on their throats, white rings around their eyes and white ring around their muzzle.

If it is processed during this time, the muscles shorten and contract causing the meat to become tough. You should let your deer hang for 2 to 4 days at minimum before processing to avoid this. For the best tasting deer meat Mississippi State University recommends 14 to 18 days of hanging time.

In fact, a unique set of antlers that are smaller might just be quite a bit more valuable than a larger set that isn't unique or holds some sort of status.
