Is Nambe flatware dishwasher safe? ›

Never put Nambé alloy in the dishwasher, or leave in standing water. Wipe Nambé alloy product by hand with mild soap and dry immediately with a soft clean cloth.

Spending enough time exposed to moisture can eventually lead to it tarnishing - it can lose its lustre and become coated in a black, orange, or grey layer of corrosion. Although tarnish doesn't damage the metal, it can spoil its appearance and make it look much older than it actually is.

When polished, Nambé alloy has a beautiful silver-like luster, yet it does not chip or peel and is resistant to tarnish. Beautiful, but unexpectedly useful, it is oven-safe, is freezer-safe, and possesses the unique ability to retain temperature—both hot and cold—for long periods of time.

Metals can begin to rust when they come into contact with oxygen or water. This is a natural chemical reaction and does not mean that your appliance is faulty. Salty and acidic water can further speed up the corrosion process, causing your cutlery to rust quicker.

Sprinkle or squirt Bar Keepers Friend cleanser onto a wet dishcloth or non-abrasive sponge. Scrub rust stains to remove them. Do not leave BKF on utensils for longer than one minute. Rinse and repeat the application as necessary to remove rust.

Silver flatware

Surprisingly, silver and silver-plated flatware can be washed in the dishwasher, with a few caveats. Make sure to use a detergent that does NOT contain lemon or other citric acid, or it could damage the metal.

Only place solid silver pieces in the dishwasher. Meaning no flatware with pearl handles, glue joints, or reinforced items. If you have hollow-handle knives, don't put them in the dishwasher.

Some gold silverware sets are considered dishwasher safe, but it's always a good idea to hand wash to preserve the shine and finish.
